HISTORY
Established in 1990, the San Tan Historical Society continues under a clear mission. Successful partnerships in the community have helped to promote our visions and values throughout the years; and, it’s been our small family of volunteers with clear objectives, sound decisions, and initiatives established on cooperation that have ensured our continued success.
The historic Rittenhouse School is one of our last historic landmarks. After years of standing idle and falling into disrepair, the San Tan Historical Society signed an agreement with the Queen Creek School District to take charge of its restoration and preservation. We are actively collaborating with the community to provide value-add services.
Thanks to the efforts of the San Tan Historical Society members and volunteers, the historic school was placed on the Arizona Historical Registry in 1990 and accepted by the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.
